HOW TO COMMISSION A PORTRAIT SCULPTURE

Portrait consultation:

During the initial consultation, we will discuss the desired pose, dimensions, level of detail, and final casting material for the sculpture, including whether it will be free-standing or mounted on a plinth. Based on this discussion, we will establish a price for the portrait.

Your Word:

In order to capture their character, I ask each subject (or their parents) to give me a single word that best describes the emotion they want the portrait to portray. This word will be explored during our photo and sketch session.

Photographic and sketch session with the subject:

This typically takes 1-3 hours, if it’s a child’s portrait we keep this as short as possible. At this stage I take photographs and measurements then create a small clay sketch which helps us establish if you’re happy with the pose.

Sculpting:

The sculpting process is initially created in clay before being cast into your chosen material. Typically I work in either marble, plaster or bronze.

Foundry:

For portraits being cast in Bronze you will have the the opportunity to visit the foundry with me and help choose the final patina. This is the process of adding heat and chemicals to bronze to create rich surface colours and a protective finish. It produces unique tones, textures and depth.

Pricing:

Prices start at £4,000 for a child or half-life-size adult portrait in marble plaster.

For Bronze, prices start at £7,000 for a child or half-life-size adult portrait.

After our initial consultation, once we have agreed a price you will be required to make a 50% deposit
